ARGENTINE JAZZ   a compilation.

With the help and support of Argentine musicians, radios, press and friends, George Haslam set out to compile a selection of some of the exciting contemporary jazz played in Argentina today ~ from La Plata and Buenos Aires to Patagonia, Mendoza, San Luis on an amazing tour of discovery.

Volume 1 contains 70 minutes across 12 tracks by 12 different groups, each track completely different from the previous but all unmistakably Argentine. Probably the strongest overall flavour is that of the array of ethnic rhythms employed in the music.

The original music is composed and played starting from Afroamerican rhythmical patterns basically. The original melodies sometimes belong to a strict rhythm pattern and in other occasions following the opposite, using traditional or non-traditional harmony progressions and form structures. There is no "scale plan", no primary ideas about tones or tonic areas where surround, sometimes are "inflection" points formed by rhythmical phrases or cells where you can recognize a suggestive way to go up to the "head" without seeing a V grade .
