The Duo Indù, based in Bologna, was formed in 2012 by Claudio Vignali (piano & keyboards) and Andrea Grillini (drums and percussions), later adding a further dimension through Achille Succi, alto sax and bass clarinet. In this 2013 studio session the duo is joined by Succi on 3 of the 9 tracks
Except for the Tim Berne composition, the CD is a collection of originals by Vignali and Grillini reflecting their classical and avant-garde influences on the jazz they play.
"Genres, currents and different studies mix together creating an innovative synthesis, which is almost surreal: classic music, avantgarde and jazz music all blend in their original compositions, tying harmony and experimentation, old atmospheres, modern and contemporary ones in an absolutely new manner."

A remarkable spectrum array of styles from this imaginative duo: the music ranges between the dark onrush of drum-and-bass to jazz-styled things on which piano and/or new member Succi’s reeds dominate. At times, there are echoes of Foug Scharin’s HiM or even Frank Zappa in his Jazz From Hell/Synclavier period, but with bebop elements. It’s an album that punches well above its weight, or well above its very short duration. No longer than the average 1970s LP, but one never feels short-changed because each track packs a punch, and often executes multiple changes of direction. The only non-group composition is Tim Berne’s Van Gundy’s Retreat, a typically tough and uncompromising line from the saxophonist.
The beats are punchy but with acres of light and shade. Grillini has the same kind of touch as the late Stu Martin, particularly in his duo work with John Surman, thumping but musical. When Succi is involved, the dominant idiom is closer to jazz, and his bass clarinet work on the penultimate Eyeliner combines thoughtful impressionism and swing. Vignali’s piano playing has a flowing quality that is reminiscent of American minimalism, though one of the strengths of the session is that each short piece has direction, intention and a clear sense of destination. Remarkable music.

The duo is Hindu costiutito by Claudio Vignali piano and electric keyboards and Andrea Grillini on drums. Disk to give manforte in three songs there Achille Succi on alto saxophone and bass clarinet. The record on the London label Slam Productions present an intense music, short in the performance, as a whole are more or thirty-five minutes. They are songs that are oriented cutting edge contemporary and presenting themselves CONUN look quite aggressive. For example the Blastmaniac that opens the disc with powerful percussion, or Les Pommes Alcoolique where the alto sax of Succi is expressed with impetuous voice evoking the vanguard circulating in the clubs of New York. Not missing a few passages that part so quieter, Rabrofiev`s View who un'andamento quite complex in execution. The atmospheres are transformed, the battery rears up and eventually also appears a melody of European type. Very beautiful and evocative Pentesilea, almost ethereal. Generation of Phenomenal returns Achille Succi on bass clarinet, here are the electric keyboards and moments seem to remember the Miles Davis fusion more innovative, reflecting the great influence that music had to rear. A song that would have liked to Master! Eyeline the execution is longer, are more than seven minutes in which there is still Achille Succi, first alto sax, bass clarinet and very lyrical. The whole album is presented as a summary of the successful compact several trends present in contemporary music, experimenting and looking to the past, songs more simple, as the final ANS and other more complex. All songs are written by the duo Bologna, except Van Grundy's Retreat Tim Berne, one that the avant-garde in New York makes for quite a while and that you chose to perform in duo, keyboards and drums, thus omitting any comparison with the alto sax of the composer. This is a disc with many surprises that aims for repeated listening, because every time there is something new to discover.
Indù – JAGGERNAUT: DIG those headphones out – NOW! You can’t listen to this (at least for the first go-round) unless you’re totally "wired in" & in need of a musical fix! & I don’t care what you call it, for me, this is "power jazz"… as you listen to the wonderful Rhodes work on "Icarus", you’ll know exactly what I mean… man, this is some fiery keyboard work… it will infuse you with a sense of energy you’ve never experienced before. From Italy, Andrea Grillini on drums and percussions Claudio Vignali (piano & keyboards), with Achille Succi on alto sax and bass clarinet, the group will just blow you away… my personal favorite of the nine tunes offered up is the 7:04 "Eyeliner" – just loved the keyboard on this, and you’ll hear all the other instruments in their splendid glory, too! If you’re looking for high-energy and highly creative, this is MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; "EQ" (energy quotient) rating is 4.98. The duo Indu is comprised of Claudio Vignali/p-key and Andrea Grillini/dr-effects, with a few tracks including Achille Succi’s sax and bas clarinet. The sounds? Sometimes you get plaintive piano plunking along with percussive musicings as on A.N.S’ and "Rabrofiev’s View" while some 70s funk is felt on "Phenomenal Generation." Busy drum work and patterns proved the foundation for synthetic sounds on "Blastmaniac" and the kinetic "Icarus" while some sax adds extra texture on the busy "Eyeliner" and the cuboidal "Les Pommes Alcoolique." A mix of form and absolute freedom here, with lots of sounds bouncing around your ears. George W. Harris http://www.jazzweekly.com/2015/01/indu-juggernaut/
A keyboards (Claudio Vignali) / drums (Andrea Grillini) duo, plus Achille Succi on sax and bass clarinet on three tracks. Electro-jazz with an attitude. Short and tightly written tunes. "Blastmaniac" and "Van Gundy’s Retreat" get close to progressive rock. Reminiscent at time of Giovanni Di Domenico’s projects, with a dash of Swiss avant-jazz, and the openminded approach of early Supersilent. A fine listen.

On the Italian jazz scene breaks the duo Hindu, or Andrea Grillini and C. Vignali, an album that sees the first on drums and special effects, and the second at the piano and various keyboards. With them the winds of Achille Succi present in three of the nine tracks that make up the selection of a job announcing loudly the hustle and urgency of expression of the two owners of the project. Eclectic musicians who do not like the fences usually interposed between one kind and another, and then, large unpredictable atmosphere. Opening the vehemence of techno "Blastamaniac" which is followed by the unusual geometry of "Van Gundy's Retreat" signed by Tim Berne, the only non-original, which Vignali first track to the synth and then spread to the piano in close symbiosis with Grillini. The zigzag of the clarinet Succi is the protagonist of "The Pommes Alcooloque" third track flash, little more than two minutes, let alone the previous two.Perhaps a sign of instinctive inspiration seized upon by the two musicians and now formalized. Then the first of three episodes highlight of the entire album: "Rabrofiev's View," a composition that goes beyond any possible labeling, majestic, evocative and detailed, highlights the talents of Vignali in a melting pot of classic and modern jazz that are beautiful fusion and report the intense interplay with the drumming of Grillini. And still "Icarus" hectic, elusive, rhythmically paced, explosive, and then all of a sudden yearning, to be reborn in a growing disruptive, wonderfully narrated by the wind and by the combination of Succi Grillini-Vignali. It 's the most intense portion of the album that I'm telling you, and that leads to the final track, the hypnotic and rhythmically stubborn "ANS." Juggernaut is a flash of blinding light, a crackling sound that intrigues the listener insatiable lover. Not Privatel of your attention!

The history of jazz teaches that a duo of musicians is almost necessarily only author of a particularly difficult and avant-garde music, disinclined to trade and easy listening. And 'the case of Claudio Vignali (acoustic and electric piano, keyboards and various synthesizers) and Andrew Grillini (drums and sound effects) that continue the path taken by the great experimenters pairs of new horizons in the past jazz (Max Roach / Anthony Braxton, or Elvin Jones / Dave Holland to name just a few sacred monster overseas to which we could add our recent Paolo Fresu and Daniele di Bonaventura with their striking duo trumpet and accordion). Rather striking is the meeting between these two composers that you do not (and do not do) miss anything ranging, even in the same song Eyeliner, from classical music just rhythmic phrasing of the torrential waterfalls piano reminiscent of Cecil Taylor tarantolato more and uncompromising. And if the title "Juggernaut" originates from the Sanskrit tradition meaning "Lord of the universe" that Indu (in du-o) are depicted with the Buddha on the cover, in the case of this composite album prefer to give it the sense of the term anglicized as a "real or metaphorical unstoppable force" then that is driving that transpires from keys and drums duo from Bologna.
And then if Icarus moves between the percussive dream of a tribal dance sabbatical and funereal, Phenomenal Generation recollection the stripping of a jazz rock that something needs to Joe Zawinul, while Rabrofiev's View, liquid and sweet ballad piano, turns into raw roughness nell'ostica the middle. Note of interest is also the intrusion of Achille Succi on alto and bass clarinet that enriches with its phrasings furious three pieces of this beautiful proof of the author proposes that a single cover, that Van Gurdy's Retreat Tim Berne (one of the avant-garde jazz they will be) carried out, in spite of its author, with only keyboards and drums. And finally to close a multi-faceted album, full of great technical caliber of performers and full of contaminations, worthy of note, but especially plays, which moves between free jazz, avant-garde classical and experimental music, almost by surprise, comes ANS catchy song and light, canticchiabile as a song, as if to show that those who create an abstract painting known, however, paint a flower pot
