Even more inaccessible than the Parker/Haslam/Edwards album, this disc is not the light, woody, harmonically intricate disc one would expect. I don't know why I expected that, maybe because of the "official" and "classical" looking cover. I shan't be fooled again. This disc is essentially three reed players "eating it up" with really complicated conversations and emotions that need to be really tuned in to, in order for one to understand. I don't have the time to listen too closely right now, but maybe someday, after I get Taylor's Unit Structures to click. I don't mean the previous sentence to mean that I'm "too busy" to listen. I'm not. I just know that "getting" this disc is going to take some tremendous time. Trying is half the fun. I wonder how many spins this one will take? Maybe a lifetime. Listening now, I find some passages that have some incredible moods. I'll focus on them first. Beyond Coltrane 2002 by Fred Barrett
